MA Audubon 28th Annual Coastal Science Conference

This year marks the tenth year that Saints Academy students have partnered with Mass Audubon to conduct field research at the salt marsh at Conomo Point in Essex. Our 6th and 8th grade students proudly presented their findings at the 28th Annual Coastal Science Conference, held at Essex Technical High School in November.

Our 6th grade students continued their long-term study of marsh vegetation, particularly phragmites, tracking changes across five designated areas of the marsh as part of their environmental studies curriculum. Meanwhile, our 8th grade students returned to the marsh to deepen the investigation through their chemistry coursework. They collected, processed, and analyzed water samples, focusing on nitrate and nitrite levels to better understand water quality.

Together, The Saints Academy research centered on an essential question:How is the ripple effect impacting the salt marsh? This unique, hands-on program exemplifies the power of scholarship, real-world science, and meaningful partnerships. We are incredibly proud of our students for their curiosity, dedication, and professionalism.

A heartfelt thank you to Mrs. Pomeroy and Mr. McLaughlin for continuing to provide our students with the opportunity to engage in such important environmental research.

The Saints Academy

Our 6th & 7th grade students did a wonderful job fundraising for St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. Thank you to all of our families for supporting their efforts. They raised $1,750. for this great cause! Students held a bake sale, they sold bracelets, stickers, key chains, and stress balls (all of these items were made by students). They also held a raffle to win a basketball game that one group created. Excellent work!
